Thru-hikers: considering the pink line through the Gila when the river may be high?

TL;DR -> If this stream gauge is >200cfs, don’t bother. If this gauge reads over 100cfs, don’t do it. Confused and just want to suss it out on the ground? Consider all of the alt routes below.

Click this Gaia link to see your relevant options. The standard blue line gets you to the Gila/Sapillo Creek confluence where you can see the river for the first time. Look good? Just continue upstream along the Far Out pink route. Don’t like the way it looks? You can bail up to the hwy and then to GHS along the green line.

If you already know that the water level is too high for you, seriously consider the orange route to entirely bypass the lower Gila section. From there you can take the high country bypass north of G.H.S.
